Karantina Hospital
Following the explosion, Lebanon Needs swiftly restored the hospital’s essential electrical circuits and prioritized securing all entrances and windows to Karantina Hospital, and subsequently rebuilding the main glass doors, windows, and frames to prevent theft. We also rehabilitated the hospital’s laboratory department, pharmacy department, and administrative areas.
Beneficiaries
Lebanon Needs is committed to supporting underprivileged Lebanese patients from all walks of life and across all four regions: North, South, Bekaa, and Beirut. We work with our network of partners to identify them, assess their healthcare needs, and help them obtain the medical attention, medications, and medical devices they require. We help provide limb prostheses to patients in need and ensure proper follow up.
Community Healthcare Volunteers
Lebanon Needs’ Community Healthcare Volunteers (CHVs) provide initial support and triage to patients at their homes in the neighborhoods affected by the August 4, 2020 explosion in Beirut. As part of our Together LiBeirut campaign, Lebanon Needs provided the residents of the Tamish building, a heritage building severely affected by the August 4 explosion, with the medications they require. Our campaign partner The House of Christmas is helping rehabilitate the building.
COVID-19
Lebanon Needs held the COVID-19 Emergency Response for Lebanon campaign from April to September 2020 to help protect healthcare workers, who are most at risk of contracting the COVID-19 infection, in underserved institutions in Lebanon.
Food drive
Lebanon Needs is dedicated to delivering healthcare to vulnerable Lebanese people. Access to food is a key social determinant of health that has a direct impact on a person’s well-being and health status. With the current hyperinflation, many Lebanese households are struggling to make both ends meet.
Pharmacies and dispensaries
Lebanon Needs works with over 24 pharmacies across the country. Patients pick up their medicines directly from their local pharmacy at no charge after their prescription has been updated by a physician and verified by a pharmacist. We also work with several primary healthcare clinics and dispensaries to promote preventive medicine and ensure regular follow up. We support the CJC Monot Dispensary with donated medicines and refer our patients there for medical evaluations.
Medical donations
Lebanon Needs regularly provides medical equipment, supplies, and medications to underserved healthcare institutions. Following the devastating August 4 explosion of the port of Beirut, we focused on equipping hospitals in Beirut with personal protective equipment and tetanus vaccines to help the injured prevent infections.
We are grateful for the donations we received from all over the world and for the dedicated local and international volunteers that help us sort, ship and distribute the medical supplies.
