A Year of Fulfilling Lebanon’s Needs
Inspired by the spirit of the Lebanese Uprising, we launched Lebanon Needs a year ago to tackle the social determinants of health in collaboration with our partners in Lebanon. Little did we expect to quickly become a reputable local healthcare NGO - all thanks to your steadfast support.
Today, Lebanon Needs is helping over 1,600 patients across Lebanon with medical consultations, follow-ups, exams, and medicines. We have also assisted 39 healthcare institutions, donating over 1,000 kg of medications and 500 boxes of supplies.
We are one of the first responders to public health emergencies in Lebanon. Shortly after the World Health Organization declared the pandemic in March, we launched the COVID-19 Emergency Response for Lebanon and, thanks to your generous donations and support from Arcenciel and Act for Lebanon, we distributed 200,000 PPE to healthcare workers in 35 institutions.
Following the August 4 explosion in Beirut, we teamed up with two other established NGOs to launch Together LiBeirut, a collaborative platform that aims to offer comprehensive relief to the people of Beirut by promoting healthcare services, mental health support, livelihood restoration, and heritage preservation.
Looking to 2021, we aim to double the number of our patient beneficiaries, launch a homecare program for elderly and non-mobile patients, and support additional healthcare institutions in remote areas.
Hear Them Say
“Your contribution in terms of masks, protective gowns and other medical supplies has undoubtedly made a big impact in our hospitals, especially after the unprecedented pandemic and the Beirut explosion that have been aggravated by the harsh economic meltdown in Lebanon,” explained Lebanese American University Associate Director of Development Paula El-Haddad. “In fact, it is thanks to you and our supporters that our medical staff in the hospitals and the LAU Mobile Clinic are best shielded, while on their ‘healing with compassion’ mission, not only at our premises but also in remote Lebanese areas.”
“The Beirut port explosion devastated several major hospitals, primary healthcare centers, and testing laboratories and placed tremendous strain on a healthcare system already in crisis. Lebanon Needs’ emergency response includes a sustainable recovery plan, whereby healthcare institutions are assisted with basic repairs, medical supplies, and PPE so they can be functional again,” explained Dr. Josyann Abisaab MD, FACEP.
“The campaign idea was to help hospitals in different areas of Lebanon, especially those hospitals that treat COVID-19 patients, and to protect personnel, paramedics, medical-waste treatment facilities, and many more,” said Lebanon Needs co-founder Nour Najem.
